Nooooooo! Someone snapped our dream house away. When I told the realtor that we are going to buy it, he noticed that it was taken off the market just a half hour before. It was six months listed and no one was interested in it for months. According to our realtor there were no showings in a long time. And then we came. We liked it so much that we looked twice at this house last weekend. Andrew wanted to put an offer in right away. I was hesitant. The commute from and to this house would be so long and I needed a few days to make peace with that.

My mother really misses me and had a tough time when I decided to move to the U.S. And the times got even harder for her after I left. I am her only child, and she lives alone, and we don’t have a big family.

Every child loves it and even many adults want it: a white Christmas. As a child I was always disappointed when there was no snow on Christmas Eve, because that’s the only way a real Christmas was supposed to look.

I have another blog and wrote a post years ago about the common prejudice that Americans are superficial. To make a long story short: they are not! But I still get comments on that post from Germans who are convinced that Americans are not able to connect honestly with others.

One day, Andrew looked at me and said, “You don’t think I am funny!” I was a little bit surprised to hear that. We have fun together, we laugh about stuff, but would I have specifically called him a riot or a party clown? Not really.

After spending a day in Las Vegas I was looking forward to the bus tour to the Grand Canyon. The bus was supposed to drive by the Hoover Dam and bring us to the West Rim of the Grand Canyon. I wanted to get out of the city and see...
